GUTTED Thistle boss Jimmy Kerr watched in despair as his players threw away the chance of grabbing a point at Western Park.
Willie Sawyers, Chris Zok and Ryan McGregor gave Renfrew a three goal cushion then Liam Sloan missed a penalty and Chris Dallas had an effort chalked off before Sloan eventually netted.
He told The Juniors: ”For 30 minutes we have played really well and then Paul Bain has slipped and gave them a goal and then for 15 minutes we have went to pieces.
”I mean to be three down at half time is a travesty and in the second half to their credit they could have gotten something out of the game.
”We have missed a penalty and we have had a goal dismissed when the boy was not offside and we have missed a sitter – it was just one of those days.”
Frew started well and Thistle’s Graeme Dempsey had to be sharp to clear Colin Forbes’ cross from reaching Scott Upton.
Thistle were being tested at every opportunity but when Anton Smith found Zok he made space and played across the keeper for Sawyers to easily dispatch on 28 minutes.
Moments later a poor clearance fell to Smith whose cute lob caught out the static Thistle defence and Zok nodded home the second of the match.
And right on half time Graeme Mort switched to Zok then the striker chipped over keeper Graeme Lynn allowing McGregor to tap home.
Zok had a great chance to kill the game after the break but the ball bobbled at the vital moment and was saved by Lynn.
The hosts looked to have a way back into the match when Smith looked to have fouled Ally Morgan in the box and referee Steven Reid awarded a penalty on 73 minutes.
Sloan stepped up to the spot and blasted over but seconds later Zander McMillan played in Dallas and he netted via Iain Wilson’s legs – but whistler Reid dismissed it for offside.
The visitors did have the ball in the net when Sloan beat James Crowhurst to Graeme Dempsey’s corner on 77 minutes.
Frew gaffer Colin Clark said: ”We were poor and I thought that we were off the boil I did not think that we played that well.”
