Whitletts Victoria Development Club Manager Andrew Downie said that the event proved to be a huge success.
“A sell out crowd, quality speakers and an excellent meal are the foundations for a great evenings entertainment and we all three on Saturday. “There are lots of people I would like to thank who all contributed to making the evening a success. “In particular all three speakers who were simply outstanding with their array of stories and wit, as well as Jimmy Cope and his staff at the Ally MacLeod Suite for their outstanding service on the night.”
“The sold out signs for this event went up weeks ago and I am indebted to all the businesses and supporters who turned up to make the evening such an outstanding success. “My apologies to those who we simply couldn’t accommodate on the night due to the high demand but we are already working on next years dinner and hope to be able to accommodate even more people next year.”
The evening had a theme to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Whitletts Victoria side that reached the semi finals of the Scottish Junior Cup in 1956, where they went down 3-2 to eventual winners Petershill in front of 20,100 spectators at Shawfield Stadium.

To mark the occasion, Whitletts Victoria Chairman John Dalton made a special presentation to two surviving members of that side, Bernard Longair and George Crichton who were made Honorary Presidents of the Club.
“To progress I firmly believe that any Club has to be aware of its’ past and we are delighted to admit Bernard and George as our first Honorary Presidents. “This is the first such presentation made by the Club but there are many others who also deserve similar recognition for their past service to the Club and will receive similar accolades at future events” said the Chairman.
The Club also made a presentation to Club Sponsor Kenny Stuart of Arena Office Supplies in recognition of his support for the Club.
“Arena Office Supplies have been a key supporter of the Club over recent years, supporting not only the junior side but also our youth development programme. “It is the support that Whitletts receive from Arena Office, QTS and other local businesses that allows Whitletts Victoria to develop as a Club.” added John.

“And with Neil Duffy recently taking charge of things on the park, he is bringing a professionalism to the playing side that I doubt has been seen before in the history of the Club. “All of this as a package makes the future very bright for Ayr’s Junior Club and we will be looking to use this to continue our development of the Club both on and off the park.”
