PICTURE:  BLOCHAIRN STAR…. last season’s SSMAFL Premier Division champions were in rampant form as they crushed Bengal Lancers 6-0 in the Finnart tournament at Glasgow Green.

BLOCHAIRN STAR have made a smash-hit start at the eight-team Finnart Amateurs invitation tournament, writes Tom Scott.

Last season’s Strathclyde Saturday Morning Amateur Football League Premier Division champions crushed Bengal Lancers 6-0 in their Saturday morning Group One fixture at Glasgow Green. Hosts Finnart had to battle all the way to overcome Larkhall Thistle 6-3.

In Group Two, Drumchapel United edged out Southside following a seven-goal thriller, while Postal United were awarded a 1-0 win after opponents Baillieston Thistle withdrew from the tournament on Thursday.

RESULTS: JULY 9.  Group One – Blochairn Star 6, Bengal Lancers 0; Finnart 6, Larkhall Thistle 3.

Group Two – Drumchapel United 4,  Southside 3; Postal United 1, Baillieston Thistle 0 (score awarded after Baillieston pulled out).

FIXTURES: JULY 16. Group One – Larkhall Thistle v Blochairn Star; Bengal Lancers v Finnart.

Group Two – Southside v Postal United; Drumchapel United w.o v Baillieston Thistle (withdrawn).

JULY 23.  Group One – Larkhall Thistle v Bengal Lancers; Finnart v Blochairn Star.

Group Two – Southside w.o. v Baillieston Thistle (withdrawn); Postal United v Drumchapel United.
