Finnart Ready For Club’s Glasgow Green Tournament

By Chief Reporter Tom Scott

BRIDGETON-based Finnart Amateurs have put the finishing touches to an eight-team pre-season tournament which will feature some well known clubs, writes Tom Scott.

Two sections of four teams will commence playing this Saturday morning, and continue into July 16th and July 23rd at Glasgow Green.

I can reveal the following fixtures:

JULY 9th.  Group One – Blochairn Star v Bengal Lancers; Finnart v Larkhall Thistle.

Group Two – Drumchapel United v Southside; Postal United v Baillieston Thistle.

JULY 16th. Group One – Larkhall Thistle v Blochairn Star; Bengal Lancers v Finnart.

Group Two – Southside v Postal United; Baillieston Thistle v Drumchapel United.

JULY 23.  Group One – Larkhall Thistle v Bengal Lancers; Finnart v Blochairn Star.

Group Two – Baillieston Thistle v Southside; Postal United v Drumchapel United.

It is shaping up for plenty of competitive action and goals with the likes of Blochairn Star, last season’s Stax Trade Centres-sponsored Strathclyde Saturday Morning Amateur League Premier Division champions, aiming to challenge Group One hosts Finnart.

Postal United’s new manager James Skinner, who won the Scottish Amateur Cup with Wellhouse, will be keen to register some positive performances in Group Two as he prepares for the new season ahead.

Meanwhile, Finnart Football Academy Coach Jamie Marr tells me they have been busy organising Summer Soccer Festivals for grassroots teams at Glasgow Green.

Three dates have been set aside – July 9th, 10th, 16th – and the popular venue will be packed with spectators watching the likes Finnart, Palace Park, Shettleston, AC Irvine, Drumsagard, Calderbraes, Clyde, Haldane and Park Villa 2007.

The format involves 15 minute games. “Home” clubs will basically stay on the same pitch while “Away” teams will move in numerical order after each game.

All teams should note they must arrive at the venue by 9am at the latest to be registered. The action will commence 9.20am.

Said Jamie:  “We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for entering our First Annual Football Festival.”

Good luck to all participating clubs.
