Junior Representation Strong Amongst West 21’s.

By Chief Reporter Tom Scott

ARTHURLIE JUNIORS and Whitletts Vics are making the early running in the sponsored LSK Supplies West of Scotland Under-21 Youth League, writes Tom Scott.

‘Lie and Vics are both unbeaten after three games, and significantly have demonstrated their scoring prowess. The former have netted 24 goals for the loss of four, while Whitletts’ record reads 19 goals and only two against. Further down the division are East Kilbride Thistle.

Junior football’s representation throughout the three-divisional set-up is excellent. Johnstone Burgh, who won the Scottish Under-21 Cup last season, are second top of the Premier Division, which also includes promoted Ashfield F.C., Rutherglen Glencairn, Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, Pollok Juveniles, and Rossvale.

Don’t discount Tommy Kelly’s Tower Hearts, who won the Premier title last season and saw a large part of their squad snapped up by junior clubs.

Kelly has been in this position many times before, and the East End club are presently in third-top place ( 12 points from 6 games) behind Johnstone Burgh and West Park United, who are one point better off.

Vale of Leven have tucked themselves in nicely behind First Division leaders Arsenal Boys’ Club, and the chasing pack includes Thorniewood United and Renfrew F.C.

Rutherglen Glencairn have shown that putting a hugely successful Under-21 squad can benefit the junior club, and manager Willie Harvey has not been slow to promote talented youngsters into his set-up.

Likewise, Rossvale Juniors boss Brian McGinty has dipped into the club’s under-21 resources as he attempts to build a side capable of winning Central District First Division promotion this season.
