Shotts Bon Accord 0 Maryhill 1
Report by John Hinshelwood
A gritty performance from Maryhill saw them take three vital points after this relegation battle at Hannah Park.
Maryhill dominated for the opening fifteen minutes, and came closest to scoring when Dale Clark’s 20-yard shot beat home keeper Johnny Murdoch but came back off the post. Shotts came more into the game in the latter stages of the first half with both Liam Crichton and Sean McKenna missing good scoring opportunities, but overall it was a case of two defences well on top of ineffectual attacks.
Play swung from end to end constantly in the second period, with a Crichton shot striking the crossbar for Shotts and Murdoch making a good save from a Colin Preston effort for Hill. It was beginning to look as though neither side was going to be able to find the net, but with twenty minutes remaining, Maryhill made the breakthrough. Joe Beckley’s shot was blocked by a Shotts defender, and Justin Begg pounced on the loose ball to fire home from close range.
Shotts made an all-out effort in pursuit of an equaliser in the closing stages, but a combination of poor finishing and some resolute defending saw Hill hold out for victory.
