Scottish Junior Cup Preview – 17.02.18

8-1-3 WWWWLW 4/6 Auchinleck Talbot 15/4 Pollok 11/5 LWWWWX 5-4-3

This pair of west coast giants met just a fortnight ago at Newlandsfield when Talbot went away 2-1 winners, moving them into second place, three points behind Buffs and six clear of Lok in fourth. Talbot have lost only four and drawn one of their twenty-four games this season and have the potential to win all four trophies competed for. Prior to the defeat against Auchinleck, ‘Lok had gone nine league games unbeaten with five wins and four draws.

12-5-0 WWWWWW 10/11 Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic 16/5 Beith Juniors 7/4 WLXWWW 7-2-3

Rose are five points clear at the top of the Super League after and remain unbeaten, scoring four for every goal conceded. They’re still competing in all three cup competitions after winning all of their eight cup ties. Third placed Mighty are five points off the top and have the best defence in the league, scoring 2.33 and conceding a goal a game. After starting the league with five wins, form has dipped seeing them lose three, win two and draw two of last seven.

5-2-10 LWWLXL 6/5 Carnoustie Panmure 3/1 Arthurlie 11/8 WDLLWX 1-4-5

Panmure are fourth bottom of the Super League and have suffered from plenty of Scottish Cup call offs of late. League form isn’t great after picking up five points from their last eleven games but have beaten Peasy and Kilsyth in cup. ‘Lie needed a replay to put their cup tie with Gartcairn to bed, and they’re second bottom in the league having taken seven points from ten games.  They’ve taken three points from a possible twenty-four since their last league win.

4-2-5 WWLWWL 9/4 Irvine Meadow XI 4/1 Lochee United 8/13 LWWLWW 9-2-5

Medda are in the bottom half of the table with four wins, two draws and five defeats behind them and picked up just two points from a possible twenty-one in league, until winning their last two against Largs and Kilsyth. United are sixth in the Super League and twelve points off the lead but could improve on that position if they manage to win some of their games in hand. They’ve won three and lost three of their last six league games.

5-4-3 WLXXWX 4/7 Kilbirnie Ladeside 4/1 Bo’ness United 5/2 LWWXWX 5-2-9

Ladeside are fifth and nine points behind leaders Kilwinning. They had a six-match unbeaten run that saw them win three and draw three before Auchinleck beat them 5-0 in their last league match. United are having a poor league season by their standards and sit in the bottom half, twenty-four points off the top. Their league form is improving, and they’ve won three, drawn two and lost two of last seven, and taken scalps of Glencairn and Kilwinning in the cup.

5-2-4 WWLWLW 7/4 Kirkintilloch Rob Roy 16/5 Linlithgow Rose 10/11 WWWXWW 11-2-2

Rab’s are sixth and eleven points off the lead and went six unbeaten with four wins and a couple of draws before suffering back to back defeats against Glens and Auchinleck, then bounced back last time out with a win against Beith. Linlithgow are going great in the Super League in fourth place, six points off top with a couple of games in hand. Their form is excellent and haven’t lost since mid-August, winning fourteen and drawing twice in all competitions.

5-2-9 LWWWWL 11/8 Sauchie Juniors 3/1 Hurlford United 6/5 WLWLLW 2-1-7

Sauchie are fifth bottom of the Super League, equal on points with Bo’ness. They dropped loads of points early on and seem to be finding their feet now, winning four of their last seven in the league. United are struggling third from bottom after picking up only seven points from ten games, they were beaten 4-1 by Talbot back in August and have picked up a single point from a possible fifteen since last win against Cumnock in mid-September.

6-0-2 WXWWWX 2/5 Wishaw Juniors 5/1 Forth Wanderers 31/10 LWXWWL 2-0-6

Both sides have only managed to get eight league games played to date, but Wishaw have taken eighteen points and Wanderers six. Wishaw have been beaten only twice in the league, firstly by then leaders Benburb, more recently by current leaders Rossvale. In the same vain, Forth have managed only two league wins to date, but their last two fixtures have seen them beat second placed Benburb 4-3 and give a good account of themselves against Rossvale, where they lost 4-3, the exact same scoreline as Wishaw faced.
