Our Standards

I am sure you will all appreciate that whilst offering a public service, we must display a high standard of excellence on the site. We are not suggesting for one minute that every Tweeter should be an accomplished match reporter, nevertheless we require you to work within our guidelines to maintain our standards.

With this in mind, we have drawn up a set of rules or standards to assist you and to encourage you to Tweet in the right direction, so to speak.

  • Tweets should be accurate and in a readable format so that visitors to the site can understand your message
  • Wherever possible, do not abbreviate team names. We understand that teams with lengthy names will have to be reduced in order to ease the speed at which you can tweet your updates. Keep to the same format
  • If you have access to them, please put Team Lines out before the game commences
  • Keep things simple. For example say “GOAL! Irvine Vics (Smith) 1 Greenock 0″
  • At half-time state “HT Muirkirk 2 Lugar 2″ and similar for full-time
  • Do not add personal comments. We do not require your thoughts on how good the goal was or whether it was off side. Keep that for match reports or forums please
  • Keep the tweets factual.
  • Refrain from slanderous or derogatory comments aimed at players, match officials, club office bearers or supporters
  • Abstain from cursing and using vile language
  • Let the fans enjoy the experience and take satisfaction from your efforts
  • Use an Avatar to help identify your club
  • Your name should represent the club not the individual
  • Do not post personal tweets using the official account

The most important action of the day, is to publicise your match and put not only your team and our site on the map, but the Junior game in general. Positive publicity will entice sponsorship into the game at all levels.

Tips to Help You Tweet Better

Some hints and tips for tweeting on match days:-

  • Be prepared, obtain team line ups in advance of kick off
  • If your phone supports copy and paste, get an app or notes set up before the game
  • Using the app, have the following ready to copy and paste
    • Kick Off: Home Team 0 Away Team 0
    • GOAL! Home Team 0 Away Team 0 (alter score and add scorer in brackets)
    • Half Time: Home Team 0 Away Team 0
    • Full Time: Home Team 0 Away Team 0
    • Yellow Card: Home Team
    • Yellow Card: Away Team
    • Red Card: Home Team
    • Red Card: Away Team
    • Penalty!
    • Full Time: Home Team 0 Away Team 0

If you have the above saved in an app such as pastebot or even in a notepad on your phone, all you have to do is copy each line as it happens and alter the score or add a name here or there.

Most internet phones such as iPhone, Android, Blackberry or Windows Mobile devices can handle this method. Use the above with a Twitter client on your phone and you will save so much time and thus be able to see more of the game.

We strive to obtain high standards on the site and Rutherglen’s tweets the other night defined what we should endeavour to achieve. Good luck on Saturday – enjoy your game and may we all appreciate your tweets

Have fun!
